Obituary
On November 17th, 2025, our beloved Opa peacefully left this world, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for generations. Born in Ramandolo, Italy, he grew up with the determination, resourcefulness, and spirit that would carry him across continents and shape the extraordinary life he built for himself and his family.
As a young man, he moved to Germany, where a twist of fate—and the kindness of family—changed his life forever. It was there that his cousin introduced him to the woman who would become the love of his life, Marlene. Their connection was immediate and deep, and together they built a partnership rooted in devotion, respect, and unwavering love. They were married for 69 wonderful years, raising two sons and creating a family filled with love before their journey brought them across the ocean to Canada—a place they would proudly call home.
In Germany, Opa found joy in being a bus driver—a job he loved and took extraordinary pride in. Even as he went on to build a life in Canada, those years behind the wheel remained some of his happiest memories.
Opa began his new life in Canada working as a dump truck driver, hauling sand, and working tirelessly to support his family. During these years, his ingenuity and hands-on problem solving led him to develop an invention that would revolutionize the industry. This invention became the foundation of Cramaro Tarpaulin Systems, a company he started from the ground up, built on his vision, creativity, and relentless work ethic. His innovation changed the world forever, and his legacy lives on through the company he created.
In every part of his life, Opa stood out as someone people were grateful to know. He was the best father and father-in-law— loving, patient, and proud. The best grandfather—warm, attentive, and always ready with a joke, a story, or something delicious from his kitchen. And to anyone who crossed his path, he was one of the finest men they would ever meet: generous, thoughtful, and unshakably kind.
Opa was never without a phrase, a saying, or a piece of advice for any situation. Whether offering wisdom, encouragement, or just a playful joke, he had a way of distilling life’s moments into words that stayed with you. His sayings were as much a part of his personality as his laugh, his smile, or the twinkle in his eye—they reflected his humor, his intelligence, and his love for life.
At home, Opa brought the traditions of his Italian roots to life. He loved making his own wine, watching over every step with a craftsman’s pride. And in the kitchen, he was famous for his very particular—and always superior—ways of making salad and polenta. He believed that some things were worth doing the right way, and everyone agreed that his way always tasted best. These rituals were more than routine; they were a love language, shared with his family around the table.
Outside the home, he found joy in the quiet strength of the wilderness. He cherished hunting trips with his sons and treasured the unforgettable adventures on Lake Nipissing with lifelong friends—searching for moose, sharing stories, and soaking in the freedom of those northern nights. Those moments were among the happiest of his life.
Opa leaves behind his beloved wife of 69 years, Marlene; his sons, Martin [Rosemarie] and Michael [Jennifer] ; his grandchildren, Stephanie, Nicholas [Julie], (the late) Steven, Michael, Alexandra [Ray], and Marcus; and his great-grandchildren, including one who proudly carries his name, Nello, and little Caspian, who was blessed to know and love his Opa for two wonderful years; His sister in law Giuliana, and nephews Roberto and Sandro. Opa is now reunited with those he missed most: his beloved parents, his brother, his grandson Steven, and the dogs he adored, all waiting for him with joy and love. His family mourns him with heavy hearts, yet with immeasurable gratitude for the life he lived.
He changed the world in ways both monumental and personal—through innovation, through devotion, through laughter shared over meals, and through the values he passed down. He truly was the best of men. Finally, the family wants to thank Daisy, who lovingly cared for Opa over the past five years as if he were her own father. Her kindness and devotion brought comfort and joy to his final years and will always be remembered. May he rest in everlasting peace, and may his memory continue to guide and inspire us always.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
Visitation will take place at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL (43 Barton St. E.) on Monday November 24, 2025 from 2-6 pm. A funeral mass will take place at Our Lady of All Souls Parish (23 Barton St. W.) on Tuesday November 25, 2025 at 10 am with entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington.
Salute, Opa.
