Peacefully surrounded by his family at the Brockville General Hospital on Saturday February 8, 2025. Neil Smith beloved husband of 64 yrs. to Carmel Pickett. Dearest father of Steven (Carrie) and Shawn (Kimberly). Loving Grandfather of Brody Culbert and Rylie Elisabeth Smith. Also survived by 1 sister Marilyn. Predeceased by 1 brother Ross. At Neil’s request , there will be no visiting hours and a private family burial of ashes will be held in the spring.
In 1954 Neil moved away at the tender age of 17 to work on the Alaskan Pipe Line, in Northern Ontario, Saskatchewan and the Yukon Territory; he also became a licensed pilot at a very young age. Neil held High School track & field records in shot put, discus and javelin, while still in High School he became Lieutenant and Sea Scout master. As well as spending many years coaching/managing local youth sports teams Neil was a licensed car dealer in Gananoque and served on town council for a great many years he was also an established member of Rotary, Masons and Probus. For many years Neil was also a valued volunteer for SAIL, CPHC and the Gananoque Historical Society.
