Obituary of Nayan Mehta
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband and father Nayan Mehta, on Monday, February 10, 2025. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in Ottawa, Canada, at the age of 79. Nayan is the beloved husband of Fareeda Mehta (née Khan) and loving father of Vijay Mehta (Barbara).
Born on December 4, 1945 in Mumbai, India, Nayan was the fun-loving middle son to Vadilal and Indumati Mehta. He is the loving brother of Kirit Mehta, Geeta Phansalker (Suren), Vidyut Tamrakar (Narendra), and Pranay Mehta. He is the loving uncle of several nieces and nephews and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews. Nayan is predeceased by his parents Vadilal and Indumati, and his younger brother Pranay.
In search of new opportunities and adventure, Nayan moved to Canada in November 1967 where his elder brother and sister, Kirit and Geeta had already settled in Ottawa. Nayan studied electrical engineering at Algonquin College where he met the sweet and beautiful Fareeda. They went on to be married in 1971 creating a lifetime of love and happiness. In 1972, they welcomed their one and only vibrant son, Vijay, into this world.
Nayan was a hard-working dedicated engineer at Nortel until the early 2000s. Following his successful career, he was able to fully pursue his many interests including cooking, building hardware, gardening and his most loved pursuit of traveling the world with his favourite travel companion and wife, Fareeda.
Nayan was a cheerful, social and kind person who made friends everywhere he went. His kindness and generosity were most remarkable as he would go out of his way to help family, friends, seniors in the community, children in India and anyone who needed a hand.
Family and friends are invited to visit Cole Funeral Services & Pinecrest Remembrance, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m which will include a Hindu funeral service. Light refreshments will be served at the family home from 5:30 to 7pm.
The family would like to thank Bayshore Health Care for the heartfelt care they provided Nayan over the last few months. In memoriam of Nayan, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Nayan will be deeply missed but forever loved by his family and friends.
