Nancy passed away peacefully on August 5th, 2024 after a valiant battle with dementia. She passed with her three children and six grandchildren by her side.
Nancy was born in Leaside on May 5th, 1941 to Henry Blyth Morrison and Marjorie Blanche Nesbitt. Her sister, Margaret Heather, came along in 1946. Nancy spent her formative years in Leaside, graduating from Teacher’s College at 21. Nancy would go on to have an illustrious career teaching elementary school in both Orillia and Mississauga for forty years.
Nancy spent her teen summers in Orillia, where she stayed with her maternal aunt, Mabel Doak. It was there that she met the love of her life, Charles Hinton. They married in 1963 and went on to have three children – Lara, Holly and Patrick. They were happily devoted to one another until Charles’ passing in 2018.
Nancy was quite a lady. Spectacularly beautiful, she’d turn every head in the room. Her love of beauty though, was much more than skin deep. Her decorating prowess and devotion to the colour pink were legendary among those who knew and loved her.
Nancy’s biggest passion outside of her family and pets, were her gardens. Oh, how she loved her flowers!!! After she retired from teaching in 2002 and moved back to Orillia, she became the President of the town’s Horticultural Society. This was a title she held for many years and it brought her so much joy. She was truly happiest, pruning shears in hand, slaying her yuccas!!!
Nancy was a world class entertainer and host. She was a very social person who loved making her loved ones feel at home in her company. Whether it was the annual Hinton Christmas, ladies’ bridge nights, Newcomers’ dinners, Nancy was always the “hostess with the mostest!”
Nancy reveled in being a mother. She took a while to get started, but once she got going, she was made for the role. She was her children’s biggest advocate and champion, and she always made sure they knew how much they meant to her. She also delighted in her role as Grandma to Charlie, Gabriel, Clarke, Teddy, Renley and Lulu.
Nancy was a gem to all who knew her. Her vivacious personality will live on in the memories she left for those who loved her. She lived a full and present life full of passions, love, laughter and joy. Although her last few years were difficult, it is comforting to know she is now reunited with Charles and all of her loved ones. The gardens in heaven will be magnificent!
A Celebration of Nancy’s beautiful life will be held at the Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street E in Orillia on Tuesday, May 27th from 1-3 PM. If you’d like to share to a memory of Nancy, you are welcome to do so.
