Mona MacKechnie (nee Young) Obituary
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Mona MacKechnie at the age of 90. Predeceased by the love of her life, Laurie (2021), husband and best friend for 65 years.
A wonderful Mom to Donna Kennedy (Ellard), Dale (Sandra) and Chris (Darrell). Fun-loving Granny Mo to Brandon (Meghan) and Kayla Duquette (Ben). Proud Great Granny to Raymie, Reese, Rhett and Louisa.
Honorary Mom to the late Courtney Alexander (Joanne), Grandma to Derek (Christine) and Tara Chavez (Jefte), Great Grandma to Sophia, Elisa and Violet.
Cherished daughter of the late Bay and Velva Young. Survived by brother Ralph (late Nancy), sister-in-law Elizabeth Young (late Brent) and Lorna Townsend (Elmo, late George Janoff). Predeceased by Claude (Birdie), Graham (Doris), Reid, Erna Davis (Ken) and Garry (Brenda), brother-in-laws Ronald (Helen) and Douglas (Helen). She will be missed by many nieces and nephews and endless friends young and old.
She loved working alongside her husband, owning MacKechnie’s Grocery Store in Quyon for 30 years. She was a faithful member of the Quyon Pastoral Charge, the Quyon UCW and a charter member of the Quyon Lionettes. Mona was a little fire cracker, never letting her short stature stop her from accomplishing what had to be done. She worked tirelessly for the town she loved. She will be remembered for her singing, yodelling and playing the kazoo!
The family is very grateful to Friends of St. Joseph’s Manor where Mo spent 4 1/2 wonderful years and to The CAP for their exceptional care and compassion.
Friends may join us for a Celebration of Mona’s Life on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at the Quyon Community Centre, 1 Ferry Road, Quyon, Quebec at 1 p.m. Donations in memory of Mona can be made to the Quyon Pastoral Charge, Friends of St Joseph’s Manor or the Pontiac Reception Centre Foundation.
