Obituary of Mildred Marie Sellers
Mildred Marie Sellers (née Ionson)
October 27, 1927 – April 30, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mildred “Mil” Marie Sellers on April 30, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on October 27, 1927, in Agincourt, Ontario, Mil was the youngest daughter of Malcolm Grant Ionson and Barbara Mae Grant. Though she lost her mother at the age of one, Mil was raised with love and devotion by her father and her cherished housekeeper, Miss Morgan, who cared for her as if she were her own.
Mil was a woman known for her warmth, grace, and quiet strength. She shared a lifelong bond with her beloved siblings and was deeply shaped by their love and loyalty. She was predeceased by her sisters Teen, Fran, Betty Mae, and Cathy – each of whom held a special place in her heart. Mil is survived by her younger brother, John Ionson.
A devoted wife to the late Carl Sellers, Mil and Carl shared many wonderful years together, marked by adventure, laughter, and enduring companionship. They especially treasured their winters spent traveling south with her sister Fran, building cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
Mil’s greatest pride and joy were her children: Barb Teague (Jim), and Jim Sellers. She adored her grandchildren—Brad, Frank, Maryanne, Carl, Jaime, and Kara—and took immense pride in their lives and accomplishments. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, all of whom she delighted in watching grow and flourish.
Mil passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, with her daughter Barb and son-in-law Jim by her side, listening to Tony Bennett’s, I Left My Heart in San Francisco – a fitting final note for a woman whose heart was rooted in family, friendship, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.
She will be deeply missed by her many friends at Parkview Apartments in Stouffville, where she lived for 15 years, as well as by the kind and compassionate staff at Parkview Home, where she spent her final six weeks. Mil led a life marked by kindness, quiet strength, and steady resilience. She came from strong women and became one herself – more tolerant, more grounded, and stronger for the hardships she endured. She faced life’s challenges with grace and determination, living by the words “push on regardless,” the family motto, an outlook that guided her and encouraged those around her through every stage of life.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:00 p.m. at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main Street North, Markham, Ontario. Family and friends are invited to bring their fondest memories as we honour the remarkable life of a woman who gave so much to so many.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mil’s memory may be made to SickKids Hospital, Markham Stouffville Hospital, or Parkview Village, places that reflect her enduring spirit of care and community.
Mil’s life was a testament to the power of love, perseverance, and grace. She leaves behind a family who adored her, a circle of friends who cherished her, and a world made better because she was in it.
