Michael (Mike) Wayne Komoski (Ostrowski)
September 28, 1968 – January 11, 2025
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Michael (Mike) Komoski of Thunder Bay, Ontario, on January 11, 2025, at the age of 56.
Mike was born on September 28, 1968, and spent his early years attending Vance Chapman Public School and Lakeview High School, where he forged friendships and memories that lasted a lifetime.
A man of deep kindness and unwavering generosity, Mike was always the first to lend a hand to family, friends, and even strangers in need. His love of classic rock music, particularly the Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin, was a soundtrack to his vibrant and caring soul. He found solace and joy in the outdoors fishing and immersing himself in nature’s beauty while embracing campfires. Mike’s greatest hobbies were cycling and hiking. Mike loved classic cars and watching hockey.
Mike’s commitment to helping others extended beyond his personal relationships. He dedicated time to volunteering at the local food bank, embodying the spirit of community service and compassion for which he will always be remembered.
Mike leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure his memory: His mother, Lynn Komoski; brothers Jason Komoski (Carolyn) and Christopher Ostrowski (Cindy), sister Tracy Komoski (Rod), and his adored nieces and nephews, Jamie Kruschel, Jasmine Salamon (Johnathan), Sydney Ostrowski (Vince), Jadon Presenger and Shane Presenger, great-nieces Spencer and Macy.
He will also be deeply missed by his aunts and uncles: Larry Komoski (Kerry), Deborah Boussaad (Nadjib), Patricia Hanna (Richard), Bill Komoski (Connie), Jane Komoski, Ron Komoski (Debbie), Donna Bisignano (Rob), and Sue Taniwa (Stan) along with great Aunts and Uncles. Mike’s close bond with his many cousins and the love they shared will forever be cherished.
Mike was predeceased by his father, Murray Kowalchuk and step-father Darwin Charrette; grandparents, Walter and Dorothy Komoski; and other cherished family members who now welcome him with open arms.
Mike’s presence in the lives of those who knew him was a gift. His warm smile, kind heart and passion for life touched everyone he met and his legacy of compassion and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A private celebration of Mike’s life will be held at a future date where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and share the many stories that made his life so impactful. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the local food bank, an organization close to Mike’s heart.
Rest easy Mike. You will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
“Sometimes the light’s all shining on me, other times I can barely see. Lately it occurs to me, what a long, strange trip it’s been.” (Truckin – Grateful Dead)
