Merlyn Strelezki Obituary
Merlyn Marie Strelezki
(nee Ramstead)
January 26, 1946 – February 1, 2025
On February 1st, Merlyn peacefully passed away, with family by her side, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg.
Merlyn was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, and lived on a farm near Archerwill, Saskatchewan with her parents, Evelyn and Morrel and older brother, Ernie. In 1947 the family moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba, and three more siblings joined the family, Dwayne, Charlyn and Carolyn, and in 1960 the family settled in Snow Lake, Manitoba. The family enjoyed many evenings of fun, “after the dishes were done”. There was always time for a card game or for Morrel to play a tune on his banjo, and Merlyn loved to sing with her Dad.
In 1966, Merlyn lived in Saskatoon, not far from Allan, where her Uncle Bill and Aunt Martha lived. Uncle Bill was working in the potash mine, as well as co-worker, Jack Strelezki. It was at Bill and Martha’s Christmas party that Merlyn had met Jack. After a short courtship, they were engaged during the summer of 1967, and then married July 13th of 1968. A son Jason was born in December of 1968. The family started out living with Jack’s brother Bill and sister-in-law Angel on a farm near Usherville. Over the next few years, they relocated a few times, and in 1972 they settled down in Snow Lake, close to Merlyn’s family. In May of 1973, daughter Lee-Ann was born. Jack and Merlyn lived in Snow Lake together for almost fifty years and had many lifelong friends.
The family spent a lot of time fishing, camping, gardening and of course playing cards. Merlyn assisted family and friends with their income tax, and she was a great bookkeeper, especially for Jack’s business. She also enjoyed curling, embroidery and going out to bingo with her Mom. She was talented at sewing, and we have fond memories of all the costumes and outfits made from scratch.
Jack and Merlyn moved to Stonewall in 2020 to be closer to healthcare and to grandsons, Jessie and Chris. And although her favourite granddaughter lived far away in Ontario, Meredith visited once a year and called every Saturday morning. Baba was very proud of her grandkids and enjoyed every minute with them.
Merlyn was predeceased by her parents Morrel and Evelyn, brothers Dwayne and Ernie and brother-in-law Larry.
She is survived by her husband Jack, son Jason, Karry and granddaughter Meredith, daughter Lee-Ann, Ken and grandsons Jessie and Chris, and sisters Charlyn and Carolyn (Dennis), nieces Deb (Darren), Cayliegh, and Denis (Summer) and a large extended family that spans across the prairies.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital for all the care and kindness given to Merlyn. It takes dedicated individuals to work in such a demanding environment.
A private service with immediate family will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Merlyn, our family requests, to have a meal with family or friends, get the dishes done and then have some fun, play a card game, strum a tune or sing a song.
