It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Maynard Alphonse Musey at the age of 60, on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025. He was an incredible son, brother, uncle, friend and work/housemate.
He is predeceased by his parents Alphonse and Kathleen Musey.
Maynard will be lovingly remembered by his sisters:
Yvonne Musey Johnson (Terry), nephew Andrew, and nieces, Emily (Tanner Pearson) and Berit (Harrison Ogden), Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Bernedette Gray (Rodney) and nieces Natasha, Charlotte (Lachlan Paech) and Holly, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.
Along with aunts and uncles:
Sophie Evanochko, Eileen Prestie, Ben and Sharon Musey and Myron Musey
And many cousins.
Maynard was born on April 10, 1964 in Preeceville, Saskatchewan. His life was filled with challenges from the age of 14 months after falling ill with a high fever suffering anoxia. However, he was resilient and overcame all his health issues with dignity. His parents were pioneers of inclusion and ensured that Maynard was not institutionalized, fighting for his right to equal opportunities in education, the community and future pathways. Our family was enriched with many of Maynard’s gifts, teaching us tolerance, compassion, patience and grit. He loved the outdoors; especially camping, hunting and fishing; Ukrainian celebrations and spending time with family and friends. Any kind of sport was his passion and took precedence. He was a huge Blades, Roughrider, Blue Jays and Oilers fan. Maynard began his education in Preeceville moving to Saskatoon attending Mayfair School, Bedford Road Collegiate and Marion Graham Collegiate in their special education programs. He worked at Cosmopolitan Industries for nearly 40 years. As well, Maynard was a family member of Elmwood Residences since 2010, and was recently named January’s VIP. Through opportunities at Cosmo and Elmwood, he lived life to the fullest. He travelled with Elmwood friends to Hawaii and Disney World as well as participating in Special Olympics floor hockey and bowling, as well as Art, Drama and Literacy Clubs. Maynard was a dedicated employee, reluctant to miss work. He continued participating in these activities until his passing.
A huge thank you to the staff and clients of Elmwood and Cosmo for ensuring that Maynard’s everyday life had purpose, and was surrounded by loving and giving people.
Prayers celebrated by Kate Day, Maureen O’Hara Jolly and Margaret Kress on Thursday, February 27th 7pm and Funeral on Friday, February 28th 10am with Rev. Ron Griffin, all taking place at Saskatoon Funeral Home. The livestream of the Funeral is available at the link at the top of this page.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that a donation in memorium can be made to Maynard’s favourite fundraiser, Telemiracle, or to Elmwood Residences or Cosmopolitan Industries. Vichnaya Pamyat, Eternal Memory. May he rest in peace.
