Matthew ” Matt ” Patrick Fread Obituary
In Loving Memory of Matthew Patrick Fread
March 22, 1984 – January 11, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Matthew, devoted husband, beloved father, cherished son/son-in-law, loyal brother-in-law and friend, who left us far too soon after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born in Newmarket, Ontario, Matt enjoyed playing ultimate frisbee and running track. He graduated from the University of Guelph in 2007 and went on to begin his career with PepsiCo Foods Canada. He grew with the company, moving into various positions throughout his career. He was a dedicated and loyal person who made everyone around him feel seen and valued.
A husband to Kaitlyn, Matt was a faithful partner and best friend. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and resilience, supporting each other through every challenge and celebrating life’s precious moments. He was a family man who brought warmth, humour, and kindness to everyone he met.
Matt found immense joy in being a father to his three beautiful children, Charlotte, 8, Victoria, 6, and Jacob, 2. Whether it was cheering them on at dance, enjoying school concerts, reading bedtime stories, vacationing in Disney World, or creating unforgettable family memories at Blue Mountain, his greatest pride was watching them grow and thrive.
Despite his illness, Matt faced every challenge with grace, courage, and an unshakeable determination to spend as much time as possible with his family. His strength and positivity inspired everyone around him. Matt is truly a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit.
He is survived by his wife Kaitlyn, his loving children Charlotte, Victoria, and Jacob, his mother Kathleen, stepfather Wilf, and predeceased by his father Gary (2019). Matt is lovingly remembered and cherished by his siblings-in-law Michael, Ashley, and Daniel (Johnson), and his large circle of extended family and friends who loved him deeply.
While our hearts are broken by his absence, we find comfort in knowing that Matt’s legacy of love, kindness, and courage will live on in those who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation to be held at the McKersie & Early Funeral Home, 114 Main St. E. Milton, ON on Monday, January 20, 2025 between the hours of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 pm in the Funeral Home Chapel. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the Funeral Home Upper Lounge.
(an elevator is available for those with mobility issues).
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated by the family.
