On January 31, 2025, Matthew Gander was suddenly called home to be with his Heavenly Father. Matthew was born and raised in Sarnia. He is the son of Craig Gander (Abigail Gander) and Jilliann Prior (bonus dad Allan Cameron). Loving big brother to Lilah. Cherished by his Grandparents Lianne Slade and Chris Prior, Geoff and Donna Gander, John and Jean Cameron. Aunts Heather Prior, Samantha Bootsma, Rachel Murray (Kyle) and Heather Gander. Cousins Jack, Isaac, Max and Blaire. And loved by so many others.
Matthew was a rare soul that faced many challenges in his short life. But no matter what he went through you could count on a warm smile and cheerful greeting. He had a strong love of friends and family, music, swimming and would consider himself a foodie, never refusing to try anything, except for blue cheese and marshmallows.
There are so many we would like to thank that touched his life, the many teachers and EAs he had at Bridgeview and St. Pats, the staff from Community Living and Standing Oaks, his many doctors and nurses from London Health Sciences Centre and many more (you know who you are).
Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Monday, February 3, 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 770 Lakeshore Rd., Sarnia, on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to one of the organizations close to their hearts.
