Obituary of Mary Loraine Hasler
It is with both saddened and gladdened hearts that we share the news of the passing of our beautiful mother, Mary Loraine Hasler (Graves) on July 16th. She was born in Halifax on September 16th, 1932.
Mom was a woman of profound faith which she instilled in all of us. With 10 children she was seldom idle; cleaning, cooking, sewing, baking, ironing, teaching and nursing, laundry and did we mention LAUNDRY. Her door was always opened and welcoming to all who came by and there were plenty who did. She was a favourite aunt to many of her nephews and nieces and like a second mom to some of our friends. She held a strong and unwavering sense of logic which served us well over the years. Mom was very independent, strong, loving and funny and had a deep love for children, especially babies. One of her grandchildren said of her, “Nan is like home “.
She is survived by her children, Dave and Paula, Maureen and Larry, Bride, Mike and Margaret, Mary, Susan, Dan and Tracey, Christa and Wayne, Bill and Wendy and Maria and Sean;
Grandchildren, Shannon and Mark, Ryan, Josef, Mikel, Niki, Christopher and Rachel, Olivia and Cory, Joshua and Bobbi, Janna, Darcy, Katie, Lynzie, Danielle, Megan, Ellen, Will, Michael and Giana;
Great grandchildren, Quinlee, Jayden, Blake, Jaxon, Brooklyn, Rufus, Lucy, Farrah, Charlie, River, Aurora, Ember and Remy; 16 nieces and 11 nephews. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband, David, her first born, Colleen, her parents, Will and Mary Graves (Gaudet), her baby sister, Pauletta and her brothers, Bill and Hugh Graves.
The examples she lived and taught us will not soon be forgotten.
Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax, where visitation will be held on Friday, July 18th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 19th, at 11:00 am in St. Thomas Aquinas Church on the corner of Oxford Street and Jubilee Road, followed by a reception downstairs in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, bring hugs, hand shakes, smiles and memories and/or make a donation to your favourite charity.
