Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Perry
Wrapped in the purest form of love only God could give, Mary Elizabeth Perry completed her earthly life on April 16th, 2025. While these words are not our own, they capture the essence of our mother to us. Over the years, He gave us the gift of more time with mom. He chose to bring her home unexpectedly, from the house where Rob and I also reside, departing from the comfort of her bed. For many years, this home was where Dad and Mom lived together, up until his passing on April 24th, 2007.
Mom was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on December 14th, 1936, to the late Henry Patrick Michael Staines and Clare Grace (Spencer) Staines. A sibling to Margaret, Martin, Fred, William “Billy”, Arvid, Colleen and Grace. Arvid and Ruth have made it their life passion to gather and organize their family history for us and close friends. Mom’s first-born son, Bill MacKenzie, would be the father of three daughters, Kola, Becky, and Elsa, along with their spouses, and has 4 grandchildren.
Darlene (Warren) Mann, Mom’s first-born daughter has three sons, Dallas, Cameron and Shane, with their spouses, and has seven grandchildren. While their lives are separate from ours, there has always been heartfelt love and respect for each other. Our long drive to visit with you and your family will never be forgotten, and always cherished. Darlene’s resemblance to mom and her warm personality will continue to comfort us for years to come.
The most pivotal point of our own family was when dad was stationed through the military to Regina, Saskatchewan, and lived doors away from where mom’s family lived. If it was not for mom’s sister, Colleen, urging mom and dad to get to know each other, we may not be here today. Colleen went on to marry Nick. They have three sons, Rick, Ken, and Kim, only one daughter, Robin, and eleven grandchildren in total.
Mom and dad’s love for each other led to their marriage, taking them to many postings overseas and later back to the east coast. He retired to his hometown, Marinette, NS, for a couple of years, then moved to Fredericton. Finally settling in Lincoln, where our family home is. To have dad buried close by in the family plot at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery, has been a blessing to us. The parish communities at both St. Dunstan’s and St. Francis of Assisi, where we attended, are next to none in warmth and hospitality. We will always be grateful.
Thanks again to so very many people who touched mom’s life throughout the years. Dad’s brother, Larry, his wife, Joanne, their son and daughter, have been great support for us as well.
In addition to Bill and Darlene, mom is also survived by her children, Gerald (Donna), Debbie, Rob Perry and Mike Perry; grandchildren, Natalie Perry (Nash Ingalls), Laura Perry (Matthew Smith), and Robin Letellier, as well as great grandchild, Talia.
It has been a privilege and an honour to have mom in our lives, right to the very end.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home, Fredericton, NB, on Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, from 1 pm – 2 pm, with a Memorial Service in the J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel starting at 2 pm, with Fr. Callistus Abazie officiating. Mom’s burial will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery, Lincoln, NB, all are welcome.
Donations in Mom’s name may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Catholic Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.
