Passed away peacefully, surrounded by love and memories, on Monday, January 27, 2025 in her 95th year. She was reunited with her beloved husband Ralph (2023), on the day that would have been their 64th Wedding Anniversary.
Loving mother of Sara (Cliff) Kraeker, Jake (Cathy) Zuidervliet, and Rachel Zuidervliet. Cherished Grammie of Oliver (Sabrina), Jacob (Amy), Stella (Deshay), Mackenzie, Madison, Natasha, Shona (Dan). Predeceased by her parents John and Ruby Wingrove; and her siblings and their spouses, Jean (Milton) Peart, Ruth (Jack) Havens, Ron (Joan; Patty) Wingrove, Allen (Anne) Wingrove, John (Betty) Wingrove, as well as her infant sister Grace. Fondly remember by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
Mary was born on July 4, 1930 to John Bickett Wingrove & Ruby May Craig. She was raised on the family farm just outside Burford. Mary’s life was shaped by hard work, resilience, and a deep love of the land. Mary made much of her 8th grade education: a strong determination and work ethic made for no shortage of work, from working on the family farm, to being an RNA, driving bus, and hanging kiln.
Mary met Ralph in the Brantford Memorial Concert Band. They married January 27, 1961 and raised their three children on their hobby farm in Scotland. It was here where Mary’s heart truly found joy. She took immense pride in her farm, and it became the place where she felt most at peace, working tirelessly to nurture the land, the animals and her family that she loved so dearly.
Mary’s strength, tenacity, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, a proud mother, grandmother, and cherished friend. Dementia made repeated attempts to dull the edge of Mary’s sharp memory, but even up to her passing her connections to her family were never fully blunted. We were very fortunate to experience her love and affection throughout our own lives.
The family would like to send a big thank you to Mary’s favourite PSWs, Cheryl and Julie. You’ve both continuously gone above and beyond for us, we are forever grateful for you both. We would also like to thank the nurses at Brantford General Hospital for the kindness and compassion extended to us in Mary’s final days.
Guests will be received at the Keith Ovington Funeral Home, 134 King St., Burford, on Thursday, January 30, 2025 between 11 – 12:45 p.m, followed by a service in the chapel, at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Interment to be held at Fairfield Cemetery at a later date.
If desired, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the Brantford School of Instrumental Music. Personal condolences may be shared at www.keithovington.ca 519-449-1112
