STARODUB, Mary Olive
January 26,1929-January 15, 2025
Well, we’ve had our last sing-a long with Mary, at least for now. Unexpectedly, on Wednesday, she passed away.
Beloved wife of Michael (deceased 2018), Mom leaves behind to mourn Kathy (Keith Smith), Elizabeth Nestico (Pino), Mary Ellen (Colin Mayfield d.2023), Trish (Patrick Murphy) and Peter (Josephine).
Mary was delighted by her grandchildren Graham Smith (Allison), Trevor Smith (Natasha), Sarah Nestico, Laura Nestico (Nolan), Michael Howarth, Julian Howarth (Natalie), Leigh Howarth (Asha), Gabrielle and Michael.
And she cherished her great grandchildren, Evan and James.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Olive, brother Harold and infant daughter, Olivia. She leaves several sisters-in law (Patricia Hamilton, Mary Starodub, and Barb Walls) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was amazed at her longevity. We attribute her long life to her wonderful disposition, always looking on the bright side of life and the good side of people. She and Dad had sixty-six wonderful, love filled years of travelling, spending time with friends, going to the HPO and Theatre Aquarius.
Teaching was her calling. Beginning in Ridgetown in 1948 and ending in Burlington in 1988, she influenced a number of students. She taught at Fairfield and Brecken schools where her kindergartens were hives of activities and song. In retirement she was a docent at AGB.
A resident of Aldershot for over fifty-five years, Mom was engaged in a wide variety of events and groups, but she was most connected to her faith and choir community at West Plains United Church.
Mom was gifted with musical talent, thanks to her parents and she played the piano and organized sing-a longs for many, many people. Her last “gig” was this Christmas at her LaSalle Park Retirement home.
Mom was kind, compassionate, determined and fun-loving. She was able to bring a variety of people together and make them comfortable. She could laugh at herself, which endeared her to others and she had great affection for her friends, old and new. Frequently, Mom said she was blessed and she always told us she loved us. We will miss her greatly.
Our family extends many thanks to the staff and residents at LaSalle Park Retirement for their care and friendship these last two years.
