It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our dear matriarch Mary Margaret Main. She passed peacefully on the morning of February 17, 2025, in her 94th year. Known for her kindness, generosity and vibrant personality, she will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 64 years Ted, children Ken (Bev), Edward (Sherry), Anthony (2009) and Theresa (Trevor). Also by her grandchildren Ryan, Justin, Kyle, Riley, Madalyn, Nicholas, Dominic, Michelle, Madison, Sawyer and great grandchildren Kiera, Kyro, Nico and Arielle.
Born and raised simply in a small thatched roof house on a farm in Ireland with her three siblings, Michael, John and Noreen. A devout Roman Catholic, she started working at 17 years old as a teacher with the nuns in a Dublin orphanage. Always wanting to experience life, her next steps were to apply to nursing college in London, England where she trained as a nurse and midwife. Just like the tv show “Call The Midwife,” mum rode around on her bike, to lower income families delivering babies and helping new mothers. She met her best friend and Irish nurse too, Lil, and together they travelled to the USA to the prestigious Mayo Clinic. On finishing their work term, rather than heading back to England, they contacted Toronto General Hospital to find the need for nurses in Canada. Soon after arriving in Toronto, out at the church dances she met her love of her life of 64 years, Ted. They married and moved to Richmond Hill, where she worked as a RN at York Central (Mackenzie Health), at the The Villa for disabled children and Country Place for seniors (Brookside and Hilltop). Margaret loved people, flowers and music. She loved to dance, and she and Ted always captured everyone’s eyes on the dance floor. An avid gardener and member of The Horticulture Society and Legion, she would help when ever needed. Of course, if a game of Euchre was afoot she was in. She attended Our Lady Queen Of The World Church and made friendships at the Young At Heart organization they had there. She was always at every soccer, and hockey game and was a devoted mother and wife. She lived a healthy lifestyle and loved to walk, watch her birds or be outdoors in her garden. Her Irish wit left people laughing and feeling totally at ease, always seeing the best in everyone and everything. She will be greatly missed but forever in our hearts.
Visitation will be held at MARSHALL FUNERAL HOME, 10366 Yonge St., Richmond Hill on Sunday February 23,2025 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm. Funeral mass on Monday February 24, 2025 at 11 am, in Our Lady Queen of the World Catholic Church, 10411 Bayview Ave., Richmond Hill.
