Mary Chubey Obituary
With great sadness the family announces the passing of Mary Chubey of Rosa, Manitoba. Mary passed away peacefully at the age of 91, on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Sam, and is survived by her children Richard (Colleen), Betty (Mike) and Don (Sheri). Grandchildren Nelson, Adrianna, Kiana, and Mathew, siblings Pauline and Doris (Morris) and many nieces and nephews.
Mom loved spending time in her garden. It was her pride and joy and it was always amazing. She would can and freeze enough vegetables to supply her whole family and she would ferment and pickle many, many jars to be enjoyed by family and friends. She would also can fruit which was always a treat.
Mom was an amazing pioneer woman… She would card her own wool to make quilts, she would host feather bees to pull feathers to make her own feather pillows and she sewed and did beautiful embroidery.
Mom loved to bake and cook and her three full-sized freezers were always full of wholesome food and delicious desserts and treats. You never left her place hungry and most often would leave with a bag of cookies, donuts, or other treats. Mom would always be there to contribute a casserole or dessert to community and family events. Folks were excited to see her nalysnyky!
In her later years at the Chalet Malouin, she enjoyed working on puzzles, playing bingo, making phone calls to stay in touch with family and friends, and spending time with her sister Pauline.
Mom was so happy when family and friends visited with her on the phone or at the Chalet. Thank you to all who reached out to her… it made her day.
She will be dearly missed by family and numerous friends.
The family would like to thank the health care aids and staff at Chalet Malouin for the compassionate care they showed Mom. We would also like to thank Dr. Mark Duerksen and Dr. Frank Stockl for all great care they have given Mom over the years.

The celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. To join the family via livestream, please click HERE.
The interment will take place at Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Pansy, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chalet Malouin in Mom’s memory.
