Mary passed away peacefully in her 81st year on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, after a long illness. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Margaret Rumble of King City, and her nieces, Janet, Susan, and Karen. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Charles and Sadie Smythe, her brother-in-law, Ross, and her nephew, David. She will be missed by many cousins and friends.
Mary was known for her caring and generous nature, always taking a genuine interest in everyone she met. She dedicated 32 years of her career to the US Consulate and, following an early retirement, devoted many years to volunteering with Hospice of Peel and St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Brampton.
In her final years, Mary resided at Maple Grove Care Community, where she cherished the company of those around her, enjoyed visits from family and friends, and spent time in the garden. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the team at Maple Grove for their unwavering dedication to Mary’s care over the years.
A memorial mass will be held in St. Patrick’s Church, 11873 The Gore Road, Brampton, on Friday, April 11th, 2025, at 10 am. A reception will follow at Egan Funeral Home, 203 Queen Street South (Hwy. 50) Bolton (905-857-2213). A private burial will take place at a later date.
