With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Marlene Catherine Gilks, age 84, who peacefully left us on January 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born on October 1, 1940, in St. Catharines, Ontario, Marlene was raised by her devoted parents, James and Mary. Throughout her life, she formed many enduring friendships and lived with an unwavering spirit. On November 24, 1962, Marlene married the love of her life, Armand Peter Gilks, and together they built a beautiful marriage that lasted over 62 years.
Marlene was a dedicated mother and grandmother, always putting her family at the center of her world. Her award-winning career in the cosmetic and fragrance industries was marked by her hard work and passion. But it was her warmth, kindness, and infectious smile that left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Armand; her children, Christopher Gilks and Lorraine Gilks (Earl Salzman); her grandchildren, Hannah Gilks (Patrick Mellor) and Nathaniel Salzman (Hayley McKay); her great-granddaughter, Zoe Mellor; as well as numerous family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Marlene’s legacy extends beyond her family. She will be remembered for her love of music, fashion, cooking, and the treasured family recipes she passed down. Her kindness and generosity touched many lives, and her memory will continue to inspire all who knew her.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff at Belmont House for their care and compassion throughout the years.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we take comfort knowing Marlene is at peace, surrounded by the love she so freely shared with all of us.
