It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Rooney on September 30, 2025, at the age of 76. He died peacefully in Toronto, surrounded by love, after a long and courageous health journey following a series of strokes. We know that he is now at peace and has no pain and for that we are happy. He is greatly loved and will be missed. Mark was born on May 24, 1949, in Franquelin, Quebec to loving parents Seraphine Nadeau and Clarence Rooney. A man of kindness and strong values, Mark built a life marked by commitment to family and career, and by spreading kindness everywhere he went. Mark’s life was shaped by quiet strength, loyalty, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he loved. His presence was steady and dependable, and he was always, always willing to help a friend or neighbour.
Mark was the husband of Kerstin Stenvall, with whom he shared two daughters, Caroline and Becky. He was a proud grandfather to Cormac and Logan Ratledge. Later in life, Mark married his beloved Margaret Myslicki, with whom he shared many happy years in Thunder Bay. He also became a caring stepfather to her two sons, Jason and Jaime Myslicki. He was a wonderful father and husband.
Mark was a studious person and had a very strong work ethic. Over the course of his long career, his last role being the Comptroller for a major pulp and paper mill, he was a great leader and kind mentor to those he worked with. He enjoyed his work and took pride in being a provider for his family. Mark always took care of those around him.
He is survived by his five siblings who loved him dearly: Cathy, Vona, Elizabeth, Martha and Mike Rooney. Mark loved his siblings even when they drove him crazy!
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mark’s memory to the Daily Bread Food Bank.
C’est avec une profonde tristesse et un profond amour que nous annonçons le décès de Mark Rooney, survenu le 30 septembre 2025, à l’âge de 76 ans. Il s’est éteint paisiblement à Toronto, entouré d’amour, après un long et courageux parcours de santé à la suite d’une série d’AVC. Nous savons qu’il repose maintenant en paix et ne souffre plus, ce qui nous rend heureux. Il était profondément aimé et nous manquera beaucoup. Mark est né le 24 mai 1949 à Franquelin, au Québec, de parents aimants Séraphine Nadeau et Clarence Rooney. Homme de bonté et de valeurs fortes, Mark a bâti une vie marquée par son engagement envers sa famille et sa carrière, et par la générosité qu’il répandait partout où il allait. Sa vie a été façonnée par une force tranquille, une loyauté et un profond sens des responsabilités envers ceux qu’il aimait. Sa présence était constante et fiable, et il était toujours prêt à aider un ami ou un voisin.
Mark était l’époux de Kerstin Stenvall, avec qui il avait deux filles, Caroline et Becky. Il était le fier grand-père de Cormac et Logan Ratledge. Plus tard, Mark épousa sa chère Margaret Myslicki, avec qui il partagea de nombreuses années de bonheur à Thunder Bay. Il devint également un beau-père attentionné pour ses deux fils, Jason et Jaime Myslicki. Il fut un père et un mari merveilleux.
Mark était une personne studieuse et possédait une éthique de travail très solide. Au cours de sa longue carrière, dont le dernier poste fut celui de contrôleur dans une grande usine de pâtes et papiers, il a été un excellent leader et un mentor bienveillant pour ses collaborateurs. Il aimait son travail et était fier de subvenir aux besoins de sa famille. Mark prenait toujours soin de ceux qui l’entouraient.
Il laisse dans le deuil ses soeurs et son frère qui l’aimaient profondément : Cathy, Vona, Elizabeth, Martha et Mike Rooney. Mark aimait son frère et ses soeurs même lorsqu’ils le rendaient fou !
Au lieu de fleurs, la famille demande que des dons soient faits à la mémoire de Mark à la banque alimentaire Daily Bread.
