Mark Hicks, of Halifax, was 61 years of age when he passed away suddenly on January 23rd. at his workplace at Spring Garden Place.
Mark leaves behind his loving partner Rodney Sauveur of more than 15 years and is survived by his three siblings – brother Edgar Hicks, and sisters Denise (Bellefontaine) and Edith (Derouin), and many nephews Phil, Jeff, Colin, Paul and Les, and nieces Kelly, Melissa and Tara. Mark was predeceased by his mother Olive and father Edgar Hicks and brother John and sisters Sharon and Lynne (Dobie).
Mark grew up in Halifax West and went to school at Saint Andrews and Q.E.H. He served in the military reserve for three years (1979-81) and worked in administration at Spring Garden Place for more than 20 years. He also travelled in his early years and lived in western Canada for a short time. Mark and his partner Rodney enjoyed together the outdoors, photography, and Mark had an unwavering love for elephants. Mark was also a great cook and loved entertaining with his many friends and he was an unwavering supporter of the gay community in the Portia White Court area in downtown Halifax. Mark will be remembered for his overwhelming smile, his humorous and gentle personality and caring attitude towards his close friends and family.
A memorial service followed by a reception will be held at the Dartmouth Funeral Home at 29 Queen Street, Dartmouth on Saturday, February 8, from 11:00 a.m. with partner Rodney and family and friends.
