Obituary
BERLINGIERI, MARIO
1930 – 2025
With heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life so beautifully lived, we announce that Mario Berlingieri passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025, at Joseph Brant Hospital, surrounded by the love he nurtured so fiercely. At 95, he left behind a legacy woven with devotion, laughter, and an unshakable commitment to those he held dear. For 66 cherished years, he was the husband of Agata (nee Bozzo), a union that stood as a testament to enduring love. He was the proud father to Rose (Paul), Joseph (Rosemary), and Anna (Matt). Adored Nonno to Alyssa (Ian), Marc (Vanessa), Joey (Lauren), Jasmine (Mark), Jacob (Asha), Zachary(Alyssa), Mady and Bisnonno to Marcus, Jaxson, Alexander, and Luke—who brought him special joy in his later years.
Born January 8, 1930, in Donnici, Cosenza, Italy, Mario immigrated to Canada in 1953, seeking a better future for his family. He worked hard to build that life, teaching his children and grandchildren the value of family, education, and dedication. Mario enjoyed his friendships, card games, cheering for Inter soccer, and tending his garden. He took pride in being a founding member of the Hamilton Donnici Social Club and appreciated the opportunities Canada offered him as a citizen. His family was his greatest source of happiness.
Mario was predeceased by his parents Michele Carmine and Rosina (Caputo), his sisters Sarafina Fortino (Giovanni), Angelina Perrelli (Santo) and Virginia Filice (Antonio), brothers Domenico (Ida) and Stanislao (Barbara). Mario and Stan along with their families shared a home or were neighbours from the time they arrived in Canada until the time of their passing. Also predeceased by his brothers and sisters by choice, Pasquale and Maria Aloe, Compari Michele Filice and survived by Michele’s wife Anna. Mario was also predeceased by Luigi Beltrano, his neighbour and dear friend.
Also loved and respected by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Ontario, California and Italy.
Heartfelt gratitude to the gentle souls at Westmount Terrace Retirement Home in Hamilton for their tireless devotion to Mario’s comfort and dignity. A special thank you to the staff and physicians of the Joseph Brant Hospital for their expert care over the years and the kindness extended to Mario and his family in his final days.
In kindness, donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
Resting at FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL; 43 Barton Street East, on Thursday, March 20th from 2-4 and 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. with vigil prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Annunciation Of Our Lord Church, 280 Limeridge Rd.
