Marilyn’s Obituary
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Marilyn Ruth Deveau announces her passing, which occurred at Villa Acadienne, Meteghan, on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the age of 77. Born in Sydney, Cape Breton, she was a daughter of the late beloved Marie (Russell) and Lloyd Pynn.
Marilyn was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. Mom made many lifelong friends, including Bernice, spanning over 50 years. Mom’s passions were cooking, baking, gardening, but most of all, spending time with her family. She loved the Blue Jays and saw them in 2017.
My mom and dad’s love story spanned 44 years. True soul mates, there was nothing they would not do for each-other. The house they built was designed by mom and dad and one of her proud moments was finally moving into their retirement home.
Mom found great joy in walking the beach to collect beach glass and also reading in the sunshine. She loved the simple things in life and appreciated every day and always had a positive outlook on life. Even if mom was having a bad day, she would always say “tomorrow will be a better day”. When her health started to decline, dad took care of her and their bond was so strong. When dad walked in the room and she noticed him, she smiled the biggest smile and waved.
She is survived by her beloved husband and soul mate, Joe; daughter, Shari (the late Jeffrey) Richard; stepsons, Gary (Debbie) Deveau, Ron (the late Janice) Deveau; sister, Vera (Réal) Morency; sister-in-law, Isobel (the late Gary) Pynn; brother, Raymond (Audrey) Pynn; sister, Debbie McCrea; loving nieces and nephews; grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her beloved brother, Gary Pynn; son-in-law, Jeff “Teddy” Richard; her beloved dog, Koda Bear, who always brought her so much joy and smiles.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Meteghan Funeral Home.
Mom had a plaque in the living room that read, “If you lead a good life and say your prayers every night, when you die you go to Cape Breton.” In respect to her wishes, no service will be held. Burial will take place this spring, in Hardwood Hill Cemetery, Sydney, where she will be laid to rest next to her mother.
Donations in Marilyn’s memory may be made to SPCA or to a charity of your choice.
A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Villa Acadienne for the care mom received. She appreciated every act of kindness so much.
