We have lost a bright light in our family.
They called her Sparkle in high school because of her big smile and shining personality, and she sparkled her whole life.
Wife to Rollie after he saw her walk by in her yellow peddle pusher shorts one day; they married when she was 19.
A loving Mother to Rick, Darry, and Kristy.
A loving Grandmother to Ora & Amanda.
A loving Sister to Bob & Don.
Aunty Ree to Cathy, Dianne, Sandy, Debbie, Tracy, and Shelley.
A loving Mother-in-law to Betty & Leisa
A supportive Sister-in-law to Patsy, Peggy, and Bridgett.
And a faithful friend to so many over her lifetime.
You could always count on Marie.
Always quick to smile and laugh she had a great sense of humour.
Marie was a wonderful Mother.
She supported her boys as a Cub, then Scout leader, took the boys to their sporting interests, took the kids camping, out to lakes, and made many memories on wonderful family trips.
She taught Kristy to be an independent woman, taught kindness & acceptance, and welcomed Kristy & Amanda back home to live.
Mom will always be missed.
Marie worked over 20 years for the Royal Bank and always had a smile for everyone.
She made great life-long friends.
She enjoyed giving tupperware parties, her bowling league, different crafts like Artex over the years, & spent countless fun hours playing cards with family and friends.
In later years she embraced technology and rekindled her love of interior design. As a teen she had scrapbooks, but she found The Sims on PC to design and decorate amazing homes, and also enjoyed the Nintendo game Animal Crossing to make fun little homes for her characters.
She retired from the bank to care for and help raise her granddaughter Amanda while Kristy was working and they remained very close her whole life.
Growing up she learned about kindness & community from her Mother (Nana); they went out to the residential school so Marie could visit and play with the kids because they were not allowed in town without permission, she was given a list and went around to gather supplies for bread making to take up to the women who were forced to live in the Japanese internment camp during WW2, and helped friends who were struck down with Polio during the epidemic – going over to one friends house up to 4 times a day, while her mother had to work, to rub the girls legs so she would not lose the ability to walk.
Marie learned to be a humanitarian and helped anyone down on their luck if she could. She instilled the same kindness, helpfulness, acceptance, and respect of others into her children & grandchildren.
Marie / Mom /Gramma / Ree made family holidays special.
She loved Christmas, New Years, and spending time together.
We kids & Grandkids continued to get Santa our whole lives.
In turn she & Dad were thrilled to find a stocking and gifts from Santa started arriving each year for them as well.
She looked forward to it, and it made Christmas even more special to see what “Santa” had brought.
Up until the last few years Mom was still rushing out to wave as Santa went by on the firetruck, and then outside at midnight banging pots & pans to bring in the New Year.
We can not convey how saddened we are and how much we will miss her.
She is now with Nana, Papa, Aunty Gladys, Don, Jackie, and her grandparents.
We know she was looking for them in the past months, so now she is home.
A life fully lived and Appreciated.
Forever missed. Forever Loved.
In lieu of Flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
Mom always tried to make things better for others and we will try to live by that ourselves in her honour.
