It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Teresa Calado Pires, the matriarch of the Pires Family, on February 28, 2025.
She is survived by her husband Antonio, with whom she was married for over 60 years and who lovingly stood by her side every day. She is also survived by her son Manuel, grandchildren Felicia, Alexander, and Justine, nephews Rui and Michael, and countless other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom she considered part of her beautiful family.
Maria was born in the small village of Valverde in Portugal. After marrying her husband, Tony, she came to Canada in 1964. It was here that she set up her (very meticulously clean and tidy) home, its doors wide open to shelter any person passing through who needed a place to stay or even better, a bowl of her delicious soup.
She was a sharp, brilliant woman and the undeniable matriarch and �boss� of the family, even as dementia began to take its toll. As a devoted follower of Christ, we take comfort knowing that she is now in heaven with God.
Sweet dreams minha querida amada, m�e, Vovo Mia. And as you always used to say, at� amanh� se Deus quiser. We will love and remember you forever, until we see eachother again.
