Maria Claudette Robichaud (née Cormier)
1934-2025
RICHIBUCTO, NB – Maria Claudette Robichaud, 90, of
Richibucto, passed away peacefully at the Dr. George-L.-Dumont
University Hospital Center on Monday, March
10th, 2025. Born in Buctouche on May
29th, 1934, she was the daughter of the late
Maxime Cormier and late Azélia (LeBlanc)
Cormier.
Claudette grew up with brothers and sisters in Buctouche and
the surrounding area, but summered in Aldouane, where she babysat for
sister Rita.
She began adult life as a waitress and cook at The Seaside
Grill in Richibucto.
She married Theodore (Ted) Robichaud, a merchant mariner, on
January 13th, 1955, and moved to Cornwall, ON. There, they began their
family with Paul and Michael. After returning to Richibucto, they put
down roots and added Robert to their family.
Being a wife and mother defined Claudette for the next three
decades. On her own for much of the year, she raised three fine boys
to revere their father.
She was lonely when the boys left home, but it wasn’t long
before Ted retired. They enjoyed those years together, especially as
four lovely granddaughters were added to their family.
Then Ted left again, and she began 16 long years as a widow.
With the help of dear friends, she learned to enjoy her own life once
again. Fiercely independent, she remained in Richibucto, first on her
own and increasingly with the support of home health and extramural
staff. Four great-grandchildren added joy to her final years. Her
quick wit and humour carried on to the end, bringing laughter to all
who knew her.
Now she, too, has left us, raised by angels. We mourn her but
are happy for her, reunited with her beloved Ted.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, her husband,
Ted, sisters Yvonne Leblanc (Aquilla), Rita Daigle (Tim), Anne-Marie
Poirier (Maurice), and brother Ulysse Cormier (Doris).
She is survived by sons Paul (Elaine) of Hampton, NB, Mike
(Cathy) of Quispamsis, NB, and Rob (Elizabeth) of Bedford, NS;
granddaughters Amber Robichaud, Mariah Robichaud (Monica Forestall),
NDeera Kpolugbo, Chelsie Wilson (Justin) and Julie Robichaud (Luke
Richard); great-grandchildren Nahla and Salem Wilson, and Korra and
Theo Richard; sister Gloria Stewart (Russell), sisters-in-law Margaret
Robichaud (Rudolph) and Doris Cormier (Ulysse) and brother-in-law
Roger Robichaud; many dear nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the Extramural staff and the
compassionate staff at local hospitals and recognize especially dear
friend Shirley Mazerolle and caregiver and friend Joan Doneher, who
made her independent life possible to the end.
To commemorate Claudette’s life, a Funeral Mass
will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March
29th, 2025, at the Thompson Funeral Home
Chapel, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the
Foundation Friends of the Stella-Maris-de-Kent Hospital and the
Canadian Red Cross.
Arrangements are in the professional care of Thompson Funeral
Home, Richibucto (506-523-4252).
