It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mom, Maria Cantone at the age of 91. Maria came to Canada in the mid-50’s, following her brother, to start a new life and find happiness and prosperity. In the early 60’s she would meet the love of her life, Dante. In 1964 they married, settling in south Etobicoke where they started building their life together. Over the next 5 years they added to their union a son, Amedeo, in 1966 and a second son, Riccardo, in 1969. Unfortunately, in 1985 she lost her beloved Dante and was left to raise two teenage boys on her own. She did an amazing job as she kept us both on the straight and narrow. She was a fun mom but firm, and had stern expectations of love and respect.
Maria was a proud and doting nonna, first to her princess, Samantha, and then to a second princess, Ericka, shortly followed by her prince, Dante. The grandkids were regularly kept entertained with countless games of Scopa and nourished with her tasty pastina, yummy lasagna, and addictive stuffed olives, which her sons fought over on every special occasion.
She will now be reunited with beloved parents, Oreste and Filomena, and her husband, Dante, her brothers Natale, Saladino, Raffaele, Bruno, Arturo, and her sisters Scolastica and Giselda. May she now rest in peace.
