Morell, Maria
Bernadette, 64, Pomquet
It is with
heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria Bernadette Morell.
There are not enough words to describe the impact she had on her
friends and family. Maria was one of a kind and touched the
hearts of everyone she knew. Maria passed away peacefully at the age
of 64 surrounded by her family, on February 2,
2025.
Maria was
full of life and found so much joy in sharing laughter, love, and
memories with those closest to her, especially her devoted husband of
44 years, Billy, her children, Craig, Danielle and Tim, their
partners, her sisters, brothers, and close friends.
Maria’s role as “Mere” to her
grandchildren, Reid, Annie, and Mae, was one she treasured
deeply.
Maria’s love for her friends was also
endless and she never missed her girls’ weekend in the last 40 years.
Maria selflessly devoted herself to caring for others.
Maria’s devotion to her sister-in-law, Theresa, is a
testament to the depth of her character—a woman who gave
without hesitation, always putting others first. Maria also had a deep
connection to the residents and staff at the Highland Crest Home,
where she worked for 28 years and always led with warmth, compassion,
humour, and a smile. Maria enjoyed many simple pleasures in
life like tending to her flowers and plants, attending concerts
(especially Blue Rodeo), enjoying the hot tub with her sisters, going
on four wheeling tours, to the beach, and cuddles with Alfie. She was
a fierce card and bingo player, always ready for a game, especially if
there was money on the line. Above all, Maria was kind, empathetic,
and never judged anyone.
Maria’s love for life will live on in the
countless lives she touched. She was a beloved friend, a dedicated
mother and grandmother, a cherished sister, and an extraordinary human
being who will be thought of often.
Maria is
survived by her husband Billy Morell, children Craig Morell (Jennie
MacDonald), Danielle (Jody) Crawford, Timothy Morell (Molly Ryan),
sister-in-law, Theresa, grandchildren, Reid, Annie, Mae, sisters,
Charlene (Dave) Young, Kathleen (Pat) Olson, and Wanda (Barry)
Mackenzie, brothers, Barry (Rachel) Durant, Raymond Durant, Keith
Durant (Maria MacLean) and many extended family members (nieces,
nephews, in-law’s, and cousins).
Maria is
predeceased by her mother and father Charlie & Jessie Durant,
brother Germaine Durant, and in-laws William and Loretta
Morell.
