OBORNE, MARGO It is with sadness but profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Margo Oborne of Ayr, Ontario on January 7, 2025, after a short battle having suffered a stroke, which gave the many people who loved her a chance to say goodbye. She leaves behind her beloved sons, Carter (Ting) and PJ (Sasha); sister, Gina (Gary); her grandchildren, Chloe and Julian; nieces, Jane (Paul) and Tina (Richard), and nephew Bill. She was predeceased by her brother, Bill (Lynda). Margo Van Deuren was born in Whitby to parents, Margaret (Peg) and Henry Van Deuren but lived most of her adult life in Oakville, Toronto, Port Stanley and most recently in Ayr. She studied home economics at Ryerson, and later opened her own retail clothing shop in Toronto. She married Ken Oborne in 1962; they were married for 39 years before his death in 2002. Margo showed her family and friends what resilience looks like, using the unexpected chapter of early widowhood to embrace new experiences, like adventure travel (including an African safari, Italian villa stay and a road trip to central Mexico), watercolour and oil painting, entertaining — gourmet cheese plates were her specialty — and devoted pet ownership. Alex, Obie, Misty and Kaden were lucky canine recipients of her adoration and many scraps from the table. She was also an involved grandmother, taking Chloe for special one-on-one time in the summers, and making her way across baseball fields with her walker to see Julian play. Margo’s legacy is that of a woman who didn’t complain but just got on with it. Her strength lives on in her family, who will endeavor to follow her example. A celebration of life is planned for the spring. Those who wish can donate to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
