Obituary of Margaret Yvonne Costea
Margaret Yvonne Costea (nee Chevalier)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Margaret Costea at Oakcrossing Long Term Care Home, in London, on Monday, January 6, 2025, at the age of 86. Devoted wife and sweetheart of Daniel Costea for 66 years. Adored Mother of Thomas (Joanne), Kenneth, Janice (Raymond) and Mary Ann. Cherished Gramma of Jonathan (Anna), Brian, Megan, Stephen, Daniel, Emily and Duncan. Treasured Great-Gramma of Gillian and Avery. Predeceased by her parents, Cecile and Edgar Chevalier, and step father, Bernie Leonard, as well as siblings, Theresa Joinville (Robert) and James Chevalier. Margaret will be greatly missed by her sister-in-law, Carole Chevalier, and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Before dementia really took a good hold of Margaret’s mind and body in or about 2021, when she moved into the Oakcrossing LTC Home in London, and where she received wonderful care, she expressed herself through many talents, skills, love, devotion, and compassion. Beyond “Joe Cool” (as she humorously liked to call herself) or SG’s (yes, she jokingly fancied herself as a goddess) exquisite talent of painting; her immense skill, knowledge and command of both French and English; her joy of playing tennis and swimming; being a card shark, especially when playing euchre; and her ability to have loads of fun, laugh and make other’s laugh, and light up any environment she entered, Margaret was most known and remembered by her family and friends for how she touched others with her warmth, kindness, love and generosity.
Margaret used to giggle about her brush with fame and fortune as she alleged she repeatedly beat Ronnie Lancaster, former quarterback of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, in lawn darts in her front yard, and curtsied and had dinner with the Queen of England. But Margaret could not have been a more real, salt of the earth, God loving human being. To know her was to love her.
Margaret’s huge heart made everyone feel heard, seen and loved. She was forever entertaining, cooking or baking for her friends and family and everyone loved her home made pie dough which produced the perfect butter tarts and apple pies! There was always an abundance of food, drinks, laughter and love in every home or cottage in which Margaret was the matriarch. She was the best Mom and Grandma her children and grandchildren could ever ask for, always ensuring they were adored and spoiled! Her love and commitment to her Sweetheart, “Dan the Man”, whom she worshipped right to the very end, was obvious and evidenced by 66 years of marriage. She was a little fire cracker who always had fun and laughed wherever she went. The world was a better place with Margaret in it. She will most definitely be missed by so many.
Visitors are welcome to join the family on Friday at a reception that will follow the funeral mass in St. Justin’s Church Hall. If you are considering a donation in Margaret’s memory, the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
