With a heavy heart, we share the passing of our beloved Mother and Amma, Margaret Sigvaldason, on January 9, 2025, at the age of 90 years.
Margaret leaves behind, to cherish her memory, daughters Beverly Havens, Connie (Perry) Clark and Ardis (Michael) Owen, grandchildren, Ashley and Jessica, sister Rosemarie (Roger) Maksymchuk, and brother-in-law Bob Gudmundson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and family friends.
Margaret is joining in heaven her husband, Adalsteinn (Steini) Sigvaldason, her parents Halldor and Herdis Eastman, brother Alfred and sister-in-law Sandra Eastman, brother Dori and sister-in-law Pat Eastman, and sisters Irene Julius and Gladys Gudmundson.
Born on March 3, 1934, in Riverton, Manitoba, Margaret was the first of six children in the Eastman family. Her radiant smile could light up any room, a beacon of warmth and love. Though naturally shy, Margaret’s deep love for her family always drew her out of her shell.
Margaret’s journey was one of love, from the family farm to an acreage near Winnipeg, and finally to Alberta. Her home was a haven of hospitality, always ready with coffee, treats, and her famous baking. We’ll forever savor the memory of her apple crisp, nanaimo bars, and banana cream pie. As an Amma, she found pure joy in her grandchildren, her gentle spirit a comfort to all.
Margaret found beauty in life’s simple pleasures – the Polka Party on Friday nights, the view from her favorite window, the shade of a summer day. Her youthful complexion and straight black hair, often adorned with a kerchief, were as timeless as her grace.
The family wishes to send a special thank-you to the wonderful caregivers at the Citadel Long Term Care Home. Your care and support for Margaret will always be remembered.
Though we’ll miss her dearly, Margaret’s love and warmth will forever echo in our hearts. Her life was a testament to the power of family and the quiet strength of a mother’s love.
