With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our Mom, Margaret Rose Clayton, on Feb. 1, 2025, at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital after suffering a stroke a few days earlier.
Mom was the youngest and last surviving member of seven children born to William & Grace (Murdoch) May in Millwood, Manitoba. She spent her early years on the family farm before they moved to CFB Shilo in 1944.
There she met our dad, Stanley, whom she married on Oct. 2, 1954, and within a few months, they boarded the train to Nova Scotia to begin married life.
Six children followed over the next several years, yet Mom still found time to volunteer with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Yarmouth Fire Department, Meals on Wheels, Yarmouth Food Bank, bowl, play volleyball, golf, and was a member of the Senior’s Kicking Country line dance group. Later in life, she enjoyed walking with her longtime friend, Eleanor Atkins.
For many years, she worked at the canteen in the old Yarmouth Arena & the Mariner’s Center, serving countless numbers of hockey players, figure skaters & fans, thoroughly enjoying meeting each of them.
Whenever one of her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren had a sports, music, dance, or graduation event, she wanted to be there to support them. A visit from any relative was always a joy to her, and she welcomed them with open arms and a loving heart.
Mom was predeceased by her husband, Stanley, son Timothy, parents William & Grace, and brothers Walter, Harold, Murray, sisters Annie, Dorothy, and Joyce.
Surviving are children: Barbara (Leonard), Robert, Alan, David (Jenn), Richard (Susan). Grandchildren: Dawn, Timothy, Kimberley, Meighan. Great-grandchildren: Landon, Amelie, Kyla, Kingston, Phoebe, Bennett, Jude. Sisters-in-law: Lois Smith, Linda McGray (Ted) and numerous nieces & nephews.
Many thanks to the nurses and doctors who cared for her during her two recent hospital stays.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the Memorial Service, Wednesday February 5th ,2024 from 1-2 p.m. with service at 2 p.m. from the Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Rev A.D. Bill Newell officiating. Interment in Yarmouth Mountain Cemetery at a later date. There will be a reception following at the Yarmouth Mariners Center Community Room. For those unable to attend the Service there will be a live webcast at www.sweenysfuneralhome.net
Donations in her memory may be made to: Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
