Margaret Banks Obituary
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Margaret Lea Banks on Saturday April 12, 2025, at the age of 91. Margaret passed away peacefully at Extendicare Port Hope.
Born on January 15, 1934, to Anne MacGowan and Alfred Gair Bocking, Margaret lived a life full of compassion, dedication, and quiet strength. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert Lorne Banks, and her eldest son, Lorne Albert Banks.
Margaret is survived by her son, Michael Thomas Banks, and his wife Brenda; her grandson, Lorne Michael Joseph Banks, and his wife Emily — all of whom she loved deeply and took great pride in.
Margaret dedicated many years of her professional life as a secretarial assistant to the Anglican Archbishop of Toronto, where her dedication and grace left a lasting impression. After retiring, she settled in Grafton, where she was happiest surrounded by her beloved animals and the peaceful rhythm of rural life.
She found joy in reading, walking her dogs, and spending time with her cherished farm animals — chickens, goats, loyal donkey Guy, and a beautiful quarter horse Doc. Her gentle spirit and deep love for animals and nature were just some of the many qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.
Heartfelt thank you from our family to the staff of the Port Hope Extendicare for making Margaret’s last days so special.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Margaret’s memory to Northumberland Humane Society.
