Ms. Margaret Joy Furtah passed away peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Hospice surrounded by family on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the age of 87 years old.
Margaret was born on June 17, 1938 in Wallaceburg to the late Annie (Smith) Raymond and James Raymond along with her two brothers Doug (Joanne) Raymond and Dave (Joan) Raymond where she remained a lifelong resident.
Margaret married her best friend and the love of her life, the late Ronald Furtah on July 20,1957. They spent 60 amazing years together. Margaret and Ron had 3 children – the late David (Alison) Furtah, Anne (Rob Veenstra) Thomson and Scott (Sue Lachapelle) Furtah. Margaret will be dearly missed by her grandchildren: Savanna Furtah, Taylor (Hayley) Furtah, Bradley (Rachel) Furtah, Courtney (Giselle Andal) Furtah, Jamie (Justin) Toews, Donald Thomson and Ronald (Lauren) Thomson. GeGe will be fondly remembered by her great grand children: Ellie, James, Jack and Elise.
Margaret dedicated many years of service to others through her work in home care with the Canadian Red Cross, where she touched countless lives with compassion and kindness. Alongside her work, she followed her creative spirit and operated a ceramic shop in Wallaceburg, where her artistry and welcoming smile brought joy to many.
Margaret also had a deep love for nature —she found joy in tending to her garden and watching the birds that visited her yard. She enjoyed countless camping and fishing trips, creating memories on the boat in Mitchell’s Bay and around the campfire at the family camp site in Grand Bend. Every Christmas, she carried on her favorite tradition of hosting a festive gathering filled with laughter, love, and her famous giant piñata, a symbol of the fun and warmth she brought to every celebration.
Margaret’s legacy is one of love, creativity, and joy. She will be remembered for her generous heart, her vibrant traditions, and the love she shared with her family and friends.
Margaret is now reunited with her true love Ron and her beloved son David.
Margaret and her family send a heart felt thank you to Jackie Wise of the Ontario Health Team Palliative Modernization Lead Project, the Paramed Palliative Care Program and the Chatham Kent Hospice for their compassionate care in Margaret’s final days.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eric F. Nicholls Funeral Home Ltd. 639 Elgin St., Wallaceburg. Following Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of life with close family and friends will take place at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Chatham Kent Hospice may be left at the funeral home.
