Margaret “Doreen” Dunlop Obituary
Margaret Doreen Dunlop (nee Skelton), age 86, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025, in Barry’s Bay, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 6, 1938, in Montreal, QC, Doreen was dedicated to her 5 children; Randall Dunlop, Kathryn Webber (Geoffrey), Andrew Dunlop (Shelley), Cheryl Reid (Jeff) and Greg Dunlop (Dianne), her 13 grandchildren and 6.5 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband of 42 years in 2001, Stuart Eduard Dunlop.
For decades, Doreen was recognized as a vibrant and active member of her community; a dedicated volunteer with various charities and community initiatives. She embraced independence, adventure and family. Doreen was the “connector” who strengthened the ties between her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and the many who called her “Grandma” just because they knew her. She created an environment of open communication and unconditional support, empowering her family to pursue their dreams while always being there to offer wisdom and encouragement.
She rarely declined an invitation to any event whether it be a meal, travel, or social gathering. She recognized the value of time well spent and showed her appreciation with actions and words. Her brilliance was witnessed even in her silence.
A visitation/celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 18th from 1 to 4 pm at the Opeongo Seniors Centre (19 Stafford St., Barry’s Bay). To honour Doreen’s legacy in the community, in lieu of flowers she has requested donations to the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation. www.sfvhfoundation.com
