With saddened hearts, but also counting it as a blessing that he is home with his Lord and Saviour, we announce the peaceful passing of Manfred Buchwald, at the age of 96, on Tuesday March 18, 2025, at the Valley Manor Nursing Home, Barry’s Bay.
Manfred was born and raised in Old Killaloe by the late Gustave and Freida (Bloedow) Buchwald. At the First Baptist Country Church in Killaloe, Manfred met his loving wife of 59 years, the late Esther (Hartwig). Manfred is also predeceased by his sister Esther and brother-in-law Versal Scheel, sister Martha and brother-in-law Ivan Hartwick, brother John Buchwald and step-son Terrie Felhaber.
Manfred will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his sons Barry, Wayne, Mark (Heather), and daughter Trudy Bozak (Johnny), ten grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, brother Herman (Beaulah), sister Elizabeth Kuehl (Warren), and sister-in-law Sylvia (Gilmore) Buchwald.
Manfred lived a simple life. He worked hard at his gardens to provide food for his family when they were growing up at home and had a passion for hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Many memories were made on fishing and hunting trips with his family and friends. Manfred also enjoyed spending summer days picking wild berries to bring home for his wife Esther to make preserves.
A special thank you to the staff and nurses at the Valley Manor Nursing Home, Barry’s Bay. Manfred moved to the Manor in August of 2024. Manfred always said “It was no fun getting old,” but he trusted in God and knew that every moment depended on Him. He was very thankful for the good care he received at the Manor.
Manfred’s final care has been trusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Killaloe. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, Killaloe. Interment will take place at Emmanuel Baptist Cemetery. In memory of Manfred, please consider a donation to Bonnechere Baptist Camp, Round Lake or First Step Options, Pembroke.
