Mallory Elizabeth Atkinson November 4th, 1988- January 27th, 2025.
It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Mallory Atkinson, on January 27th, 2025, at the age of 36 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Mallory was born in Charlottetown Prince Edward Island to Rick and Kelly (née Ryan) Atkinson, Wedgeport. Mallory was born with Alstrom’s Syndrome, as was her older sister Megan Erin Atkinson, who passed away in 2002 at the age of 16. Mallory was visually impaired/blind, hearing impaired, diabetic and had various other conditions. However, Alstrom’s Syndrome was not what defined her or her sister.
Mallory was known for touching people’s hearts with her singing voice and made the top 100 out of over 800 auditioning amateur singers at the Nova Scotia try outs of Canadian Idol. Mallory had a big heart and a great sense of humor and was extremely strong willed.
Her sense of honor for all veterans was palpable. She was firm in her belief of supporting Canada’s troops and was a member of the Memorial Club and a member of the Wedgeport Legion Branch 155. Mallory worked at Shoppers Drug Mart on Stars Road for 13 years every Sunday morning. She retired when Covid started because of her various health issues. Mallory enjoyed her family, her friends, her two Persian cats, Carter and Libbie and took great pride in her 18 honorary nieces and nephews and was known to them as Auntie Mallory.
Left to mourn along with her parents, are Mallory’s Grandmother Rose Atkinson (Wedgeport), Uncles and Aunts, Mike Ryan & Kim Scott-Ryan (Dayton), Christopher Ryan (Ottawa), Chris Atkinson & Denise Bourque, (Sainte Anne du Ruisseau), Jenny & Donovan Cunningham, (Overton), Ann MacDonald, (Dartmouth), Susan Grattan-Atkinson, (Pleasant Lake) and Karen & Chris Pothier, (Plymouth), along with many cousins and close friends that got to know Mallory and what a gift she was.
Mallory was predeceased by her sister, Megan Erin Atkinson, Cousin Ashley Atkinson, Grandfather Chester Atkinson, Grandparents Kenneth and Elaine Ryan. The family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital for their support. Your kindness and care for Mallory did not go unnoticed.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Visitation will be at Sweeny’s Funeral home on Friday, June 6th, 2025 between 6pm-8pm. Service will follow at the Yarmouth Wesleyan Church on Saturday, June 7th at 11am. A reception will be held after the service at the Wedgeport Legion Branch 155 following the burial in the Wedgeport Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed, and please note daisies were Mallory’s favourite flower, as were her Grammie Elaine’s.
