Majella “Maj” Gagnon
1959-2025
Following a period of declining health, Majella “Maj” Marie
Gagnon of Craigs Flat, NB, passed away peacefully at Hotel Dieu St.
Joseph Hospital on the evening of January 9, 2025.
Maj was born on June 1, 1959. She was the daughter of the late Denis
and Rita (Gervais) Gagnon. Maj leaves behind her nephews, Todd Gagnon
of Perth-Andover, NB, Jonathan Gagnon (Stacey Kelley) of Tobique
Narrows, NB, John Jr. “J.J.” Gagnon (Chrissy) of Dudley,
Massachusetts; and her four-legged companion, Ruby.
Maj was predeceased by her parents; her daughter, Mary Jo Gagnon; her
sister, Elizabeth Hathaway (late Donnie); and her brother, John Gagnon
(late Margaret).
Maj has been the iconic, gentle, kind, lovable library assistant at
the Perth-Andover Public Library for 31 years. Curious by nature and a
fun loving prankster as all those that have been honored enough to
call her friend, family, or co-worker would know.
Maj loved to learn and absorb facts. She appeared shy and quiet at
first glance, but she was always listening and retaining information.
Primarily a non-fiction lover, she became a fiction pro as well.
Maj was born an artist and creative genius. She drew or painted on any
substrate she could get her hands on like rocks, mushrooms, saws,
wood, magnets, and much more. Her creativity and flare adorned the
Public Library for any and all occasions. Her co-workers
“let-her-loose” with her ideas and knew she would create
magic.
Maj was a master at organizing fun, educational, out-of-the-box
activities for children. She primarily focused on grades 4-6 and
organized games like “Let’s Make A Deal”, “Survivor
Theme”, “Amazing Race”, and
“Hackmactac”.
The kids loved her. Everyone loved her. She mentored and touched many
lives in her work and family life. Maj will be remembered for her big
heart and just somehow knowing how to “read” people.
Maj always knew where to find the elusive “Red Book” in the
library.
Respecting Maj’s wishes, there will be no formal visitation or funeral
held. A celebration of Maj’s life will be held at the Perth-Andover
Public Library on Saturday, February 15, 2025, from 2-4 pm. Everyone
is welcome to attend.
Maj’s family would like to sincerely express their appreciation to the
staff at Hotel Dieu St. Joseph Hospital and Dr. Peter Moore for the
wonderful care she received in her final days. An extra special thank
you for Tammie and Leila for their unwavering support and love for
Maj.
For those who wish, memorial donations to the Victoria County SPCA or
the Perth-Andover Public Library for the purchase of children’s books
and books for budding artists would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brunswick Funeral Home,
Perth-Andover, NB.
