Lynwood Royden Fidler, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend passed peacefully on July 28, 2025, surrounded in love by family. He was born in Chipman, New Brunswick on December 31, 1931, son of Orland and Ida Fidler.
Lynwood is survived by his children Vicki Graham (Gary), Jon Fidler (Natalie), Jodi Watson (Richard) and his grandchildren: Kurtiss, Kourtney, Mackenzie, Kaleb, Rebecca, Jonathan, Jazmine and Jaak, and his great-grandchildren: Avery, Sawyer, Elliot, Poppy, Felicity and Felix, Senora all who loved him dearly. He also leaves behind his playful feline companion, Molly.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Grace Ann, and his son, Kim Fidler.
Lynwood followed the Fidler family tradition into the bricklaying trade, and he truly loved his work, continuing until he retired at the age of 73. He married Grace Ann on October 31, 1953, and they moved to Saint John. In 1964, they moved to Maine, USA, until they returned to Chipman in 1975.
An avid sports enthusiast, Lynwood enjoyed both playing and coaching. He especially loved hockey, golf, and baseball. While living in Maine, he played hockey for the South Portland Red Barons and coached the Yarmouth high school hockey team to a regional championship in 1975. Upon returning to Chipman, he also coached the Chipman High School hockey team. Lynwood played hockey his entire life, from a young boy on Brogan’s Cove, to playing as a senior with the Minto hockey team ‘Ye Old Miners’, until he retired from hockey at the age of 80 (due to a contract dispute). He was a devoted fan at his children’s, grandchildren’s, and great-grandchildren’s sporting events.
Lynwood also loved music. Playing guitar and singing were among his favorite pastimes. His love for music led him to play at countless house parties over the years, always willing to provide a tune, country music being his genre of choice.
Lynwood thoroughly enjoyed his family and friends, his hunting camp at Big Forks, playing cards, playing scrabble, and he was an avid reader.
Lynwood will be remembered as a great friend, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His friendships spanned decades. As a husband, he was a faithful, loyal, dependable life partner for almost 71 years. As a father, he was a solid, reliable, logical advisor, and someone you could count on when the chips were down. He was full of wisdom. He loved the endless family foolishness and shenanigans. As a grandfather and great-grandfather, he adored the children and the time he spent with them. His legacy will live on forever in our hearts.
His Celebration of Life is Sunday, August 3, 2:00-4:00 pm at The Heritage Centre, Main St., Chipman, New Brunswick.
