It is with broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Lydia, on February 22, 2025, at 79 years of age. She was surrounded by family, while cuddled in her Best Nana Ever blanket. She is now reunited with her forever sweetheart husband Jim (2022) with whom she shared almost 60 years of marriage. Lydia was most happy when she was with “her girls”. She was a gentle, ever-present Mom and Nana with a listening ear and compassionate heart. Daughters, Michelle Belmont (Lucas), Debbie Frank (Mike) and Denise Ruston will miss their daily calls and weekly outings together with mom. Family was everything to Lydia. Her pride and joy were her five cherished grandchildren: Alex Belmont (Alice), Jacob, and Meaghan (Bryce) Frank, Justin, and Adrian (Jessica) D’Ascanio. Loved GiGi to Rosella Belmont. Nana shared many happy memories with them including reading Katie the Snowplow, family barbecues, and numerous vacations together.
Nana leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and determination. Lydia loved many fur babies over the years, especially Calvin (2011) and most recently Lucy. Lydia was predeceased by her parents Alex and Loretta Gardiner, big brother Alex, and granddaughter Hannah Frank (1998). She will be missed by her siblings, Larry (Pat), Lynda (late Tony 2023) Frattaroli, Carol (Bob) Gheesling and brother in-law David Hunt (late Marilyn). Aunt Lydia thrived with the house filled with her much-loved nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her devoted, lifelong best friend of 75 years Mary Sue Johnson.
The family would like to thank the Hospice Residence doctors, nurses and PSWs, for their compassionate care of Nana. The Harpist, Volunteers, and spiritual support team also assisted our family through this unexpected journey. One Daydreams provided Nana with a wonderful 80th year party surrounded by those who loved her most. Thank you is just not enough. If you desire, memorial tributes to the Hospice of Windsor would be appreciated. Cremation has taken place and a memorial visitation celebrating Lydia’s life will be held on Saturday March 1, 2025, from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:30 pm at Families First, 585 Sandwich Street South, Amherstburg.
