Luke, beloved son, brother, nephew, uncle and friend, passed away unexpectedly at home on December 29, 2024, at the age of 45. Luke will be deeply missed by his loving mother Darlene and his brother Steven. Luke was a nephew to Alex (Doris), Pazhe and Susan, cousin to Harmony (Kevin), Adam (CiCi), Kai (Cindy), Shane (Angie), Zaag. Luke was an uncle to Bay, Kayne, Taioma, Wilder, River, Nick, Maia and Rayden. He will be missed by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Jean and Steve Zyganiuk, great grandmother Rose Rice and cousin Tamara Zyganiuk. Luke will be missed by his biological father Hugh (Velma) and siblings Roger, Eric, Sabrina, Hughie, Shane, Shamus and Eliza.
Luke was born in Toronto and lived in Parry Sound and Barrie his whole life. Luke grew up attending school at Wasauksing and played many sports including baseball, hockey, karate and swimming with his cousins and friends. Luke was known to be hilarious and high energy amongst his family, friends, teachers and coaches, he was quick-witted and comical. Luke was a devoted son, a trusted friend, a lifelong gamer and a humorous and gentle spirit. He loved listening to music and was a fan of the Beastie Boys, Wu-Tang Clan and the Gorillaz.
Luke lived a life marked by resilience, as an adult he was successful in completing his GED and other construction related jobs. Luke was quiet, he had friends throughout the community of Barrie. He enjoyed feeding wildlife and it later became a shared hobby with his mom Darlene.
Services will be held to honour Luke’s memory with a Wake beginning at the Gathering Place on Wasauksing on Sunday, January 5 at 4:00PM. A funeral service will be held at the Gathering Place on Monday, January 6 at 11:00AM followed by a reception. Cremation to follow.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Wasauksing Kinomaugewgamik or the Wasauksing United Church.
