Obituary of Lorraine Anne Van Damme
It is with sadness and love that we mourn the passing of Lorraine Van Damme on Saturday, March 15,2025 at Fairfield Park. Born in Wallaceburg, she was in her 79th year. Second youngest daughter to the late Rudolph and Bertha Burm. Devoted wife of Richard Van Damme for 57 years.
Caring mother to Barbara & Gary Noorenberghe, David Van Damme and Janet & Jason Denkers. Beloved grandmother to Olivia, Alex (Lauren), Adam, Joshua, Benjamin, Kate and Jack.
Dear sister to, the late Catherine & the late Gordon Van Dommelen, the late Bernard & the late Mary Burm, Betty & Maurice Seys, the late Margaret Renders (Henry) and the late Ann Burm.
Sister-in-law to the late Joe Van Damme, George & Jean Van Damme, the late Gus Van Damme and the late Father John Van Damme.
Born and raised in Wallaceburg, Lorraine later moved to Thamesville upon her marriage. She embraced the life of a tobacco farmer’s wife, standing by Richard’s side as they built their life together. Lorraine trained as a secretary before leaving her career at the Glass Factory to become Richard’s right-hand on the farm. Who can forget the long hours spent hoeing tobacco during the summer, and we will never forget her excitement of a good rain in August.
Lorraine had a strong faith, and was an active member of St. Paul’s Church in Thamesville, where she sang in the choir, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and was a member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) for over 50 years..
Perhaps her greatest joys were her family and grandkids. Mom was a particular housekeeper and we always knew our house was going to be “mom” clean when she came to babysit the grandkids!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff at Fairfield Park for their exceptional care of Lorraine during the last two years.
Family and friends will be received at the John C. Badder Funeral Home, 72 Victoria St., Thamesville on Tuesday from 1 -3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Prayers will be held at 2:45 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church, 9 Alice St., Thamesville. Interment in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Thamesville.
ln lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Chatham-Kent would be greatly appreciated.
