Passed peacefully with family by her side at home in Grand Bend, Ontario on Thursday, January 16, 2025, in her 85th year. Beloved wife of her husband Wes for 62 years. Loving mother of Mark and Mike. Loyal sister of Joan Murray. Predeceased by her older brother Gordon Sutherland.
Lois was a beautiful soul who spent much of her life healing others. She trained as a nurse at the University of Western Ontario, earning her BSc in Nursing in 1964. Her first posting was with the Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) in Toronto. While a homemaker and mother, Lois explored other avenues of healing, becoming a talented reflexologist, aroma therapist and Reiki master. She was a seeker of the spiritual in her life, which informed Lois’s compassion for others and her sense of humour. (She loved a good pratfall, and her laugh was unmistakable.) Lois travelled widely, including living abroad with her family in Europe and New Zealand and bravely on her own to extend her healing knowledge and energies.
Cremation has taken place and Lois’s remains will be interned with her parents, Ethel and Frederick Sutherland, at Elmdale Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Thomas. A celebration of life will take place in the spring.
Lois received care at home from the excellent staff at the VON, and there is a poignant symmetry in how her working life started and where her life ended. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Lois are asked to consider the VON or a charity of your choice.
