Marian Elizabeth “Liz” Meek (McFarlane)
1943-2025
Liz passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at the age of 81. Liz is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Lloyd Meek; daughters Kathy Boyd (Ron) and Kelly Meek, and grandchildren Ryan Boyd (Emma), Zoey Boyd (Ryan Helmka) and Avyn Meek.
She is the sister of John McFarlane (Sandra) and Jim (Shirley) McFarlane; sister-in-law of John (Kathleen) Meek and Alan (Linda) Meek, as well as nieces, nephews, and countless friends, as Liz gathered friends wherever she went.
Predeceased by parents John and Marian (Metcalfe) McFarlane; in laws Maybelle and Wilfred McKim, and Herbert Meek; sister-in-laws and friends Helen McFarlane and Marion Meek.
Liz graduated from Wellesley School of Nursing in 1963. She married Lloyd in 1968 and together they built a life to be proud of in Milverton. While raising two wilful daughters, Liz was a founding member of the Milverton Co-operative Nursery School, Brownie leader, and Sunday school teacher. She volunteered at Milverton Public School for over 20 years, helping children learn to read. She belonged to the Milverton Red Hats, and was a longstanding member of St. Paul’s United Church, Milverton, where she was a member of the choir and pianist.
Liz worked at Brunner Nursing home and Country Meadows as a nurse and then as the Director of Nursing for over 20 years, coaching and training “her” staff and loving the residents as family. She worked at the Curiosity Shoppe in Milverton “on the side” where she shared her gift of gab and green thumb.
Her hands were never still – sewing, knitting, crocheting and baking. “The best cookies come from Nana’s cookie jar.”
Her family is so grateful for the wonderful care Liz received at Knollcrest Lodge in Milverton.
As per her wishes there will be no visitation; her family will celebrate her life with a private gathering. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Perth County or Knollcrest Lodge would be greatly appreciated.
Those who were lucky enough to be raised, comforted, fed, nursed, befriended, guided by, or who worked beside Liz count themselves blessed. The epitome of kindness, compassion and grace, Liz left the world a better place through those whose lives she touched.
