Linnea Sjodin Thomson Obituary
Linnea was born November 12, 1948 at Kamloops, BC to
Karl & Wilma Sjodin of Revelstoke, BC. Linnea is survived by her daughter Celia Sheen, her grandson Travis, her sister Carolyn, brother in law Mark Feldinger, her nephews Karl, Erik & Andrew, her niece Lia as well as numerous cousins, extended family and friends.
Linnea was raised in Revelstoke, BC, graduating from Revelstoke Secondary where she was a cheerleader and represented Revelstoke as a princess to Miss Revelstoke.
Her mother Wilma always emphasized the importance of a post-secondary education for women. After high school Linnea became a registered psychiatric nurse, training at Tranquille near Kamloops. Linnea’s psychiatric nursing career began in Vancouver, after marrying Ron Thomson of Kamloops. She worked as an RPN in Victoria, locations in Metro Vancouver, Ponoka and Calgary. Linnea was an expert with a petit point and cross-stitch needle and many family and friends have samples of her craft. Linnea made beaded glass balls and handmade cards to sell at Christmas craft fairs where she met other crafters and traded craft sources and secrets.
Linnea loved figure skating from a young age when she had lessons in the old Revelstoke Ice Arena. That experience developed in her a lifelong love of skating. She watched figure skating competitions on TV as well as attending the XV Olympics in Calgary in 1988.
She enjoyed travel to Denmark, Sweden, Hawaii and Mexico, but her “happy place” was at the family cabin that her father Karl built at Eagle Bay on the Shuswap Lake. The family would gather there in July & August for good food, reading, meeting up with extended family, swimming and boating.
After retirement, Linnea continued to work her needle but as her health faltered, she moved from Airdrie to Slave Lake, Alberta to be near Celia and her much loved grandson Travis. Linnea died of heart failure on July 26th, after a brief hospitalization.
A memorial service to honour Linnea’s memory will be held August 16, 2025 at Eagle Bay, BC at Carolyn and Mark’s lake house. Please contact Celia on FB or Messenger for more information.
