MANNELLA, Lidia Ann (nee Minotti) – It is with deep sorrow that we honor the life and legacy of Lidia Ann Mannella, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Lidia passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on February 24th, 2025. Born on April 19th, 1941, in Sante Croce Di Magliano, Italy, Lidia emigrated to Canada with her family in 1951, celebrating her 10th birthday aboard the ship that brought them to Nova Scotia. As a young girl, Lidia was known for her golden blonde hair and blue-gray eyes. She often shared the story of when, as a 4-year-old in her hometown in Italy, she accidentally wandered into a German encampment. A German soldier, moved by how she reminded him of his own daughter, offered her chocolate. Her mother, fearful for her safety, quickly intervened and the soldier, with a heavy heart, agreed to send the young girl back to her mother. Lidia grew up with a deep understanding of resilience, adaptability, and an appreciation for the challenges and opportunities of building a new life in a foreign culture. Lidia attended Loretto Academy in Niagara Falls, where she met the love of her life, Tony, and together they began their family. A woman of many talents, Lidia was known for her vibrant energy and her caring nature. She was an accomplished cook, a talented accountant, a family seamstress, and the manager of the family-owned music studio and store. She dedicated herself to others, offering counsel and help whenever it was needed. In her younger years, her boundless compassion and genuine spirit left a lasting impact on everyone she encountered. Lidia approached each day with gratitude and grace, and her love for others was limitless. Lidia’s life was a testament to the power of love. Above all else, she treasured her family. Brilliant, kind, and full of spirit, her heart overflowed with love. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of warmth and kindness that will never be forgotten. Her greatest accomplishment was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she adored with all her heart. Lidia is survived by her children: Sam (Mara), Anthony (Evie), Franklyn, Mary Dolores (the late Robert Joseph), Dorothy (John), and John Paul (JJ), as well as her cherished grandchildren: Laura (Sam), Anthony, Jessica, Alaina (Nick), Andrew, Michael (Joe), Hayley (Christopher), Benjamin, Cassandra Leigh, John Robert, John (Louisa), and Johnathan. She adored her great-grandchildren: Madeline, Emily, Joanna, Noah, and her sweet little love, Aidan Alexander Gauthier. Her favorite words to her family were “Love you as big as the sky.” She is also survived by her dearest sister, Rosina D’Avolio (the late Saverio), dear brother Nick Minotti (Joanne), sister-in-law Carol, and dear brother Chuck Minotti (the late Mary). Lidia is also survived by her sisters-in-law dearest Donna Mannella (the late Diamondo), dearest Phyllis Futino (the late Joseph), and dearest Rita Mazzotta (Domenic).Lidia was predeceased by her love of her life, her husband of 63 years Tony Mannella, parents, Frank and Maria Minotti, her in-laws Sam and Maria Mannella, as well as her brothers- and sisters-in-law: Mary Minotti, Joseph Futino, Diamondo Mannella, Saverio D’Avolio, Victor Mannella, Vincent Mannella (Franca), Joe Mannella (Antoinette), Mary Daniele, and her nephew Sam Mannella. Though she faced many losses, Lidia’s life remained filled with love, surrounded by many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to live on in the lives she touched. We take comfort in knowing that her love and legacy will endure, and we will carry her passion, her purpose, and her commitment to kindness forward. Rest in peace, Mum and Grandma. Your light will never fade. “We love you as big as the sky, and we love you more. “The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Drs. Drew Girard, Robert Werhun, George Zimakas, and her godson John for their compassionate care. They are also grateful for the amazing help of the personal support workers and nurses who were at her bedside. A special thanks to Rev. Phillip Velpel & his wife Donna who provided their loving support. Her Family would also like to thank her “adopted” son Derek for support throughout the years. Friends and family are invited to Morse & Son Funeral Home, 5917 Main Street, Niagara Falls, on Thursday February 27, 2025 from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm.
