Obituary
It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved mother and grandmother, Lida Malajczuk, who passed away on February 1st, 2025, at the age of 97.
Lida will be missed by her children, Peter and Anthony (Sandra); grandchildren, Alena Alexandra and Anne-Marie (Justin); and great-grandchildren, Annabelle and Charles. Lida was pre-deceased by her husband, Dominik; son, Nick; and daughter-in-law, Alena Renata.
Lida was born on June 20, 1927, in Ukraine. She left after World War II and settled in Canada. Family and friends were exceptionally important to Lida. She enjoyed hosting large family gatherings and was best known for her Ukrainian dishes of borscht, cabbage rolls, patychky, and perogies. She was a fiercely dedicated mother and baba and was the ultimate matriarch to our family.
In her free time, Lida enjoyed gardening, sewing, and embroidery. She made many beautiful pieces for family and friends. Faith was an important part of Lida’s life and she was a devout parishioner of St. Volodymyr Cathedral of Toronto.
We are grateful for the compassionate and conscientious care provided by the staff at Thompson House and North York General Hospital.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
