Obituary of Leslie Romhanyi
Leslie Romhanyi, a man of resilience, warmth, and quiet strength, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025, at the age of 90. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Eva, and son, Ron (Regina), whom he carried in his heart every day. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, held close by his grandchildren, Nicole (Peter) and Stephen, his sisters, Mari Néni and Piri Néni, and his family in Hungary. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Born in Tóalmás, Hungary, Leslie’s life was shaped by history, perseverance, and the pursuit of a better future. In 1956, he and Eva made the difficult decision to leave their homeland, finding a new beginning in Canada while holding onto the language, traditions, and culture that defined them. A skilled electrical engineer, Leslie built his career at National Steel Car, but his greatest joys were always the simple ones – tending to his garden, filling his home with music, and sharing laughter with family and friends. He had a gift for connection, forming lasting friendships everywhere he went – chatting with neighbors on Nash Road, walking laps at Eastgate, or swimming at Battlefield Rec. He was never without a song, a dance, or a story to share, and he lived his life with kindness, generosity, and an unwavering love for his family. “A család az, ahol az élet kezdődik, és a szeretet soha nem ér véget.” “Family is where life begins, and love never ends.”
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Donald V Brown Funeral Home, 36 Lake Avenue Drive, Stoney Creek, on Tuesday, March 11th, 2025, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m., with Vigil Prayers at 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass to honour Leslie’s life will be held at Incarnation of Our Blessed Lord Church (Barton and Nash) on Wednesday, March 12th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at Eastlawn Cemetery. A light lunch will be served afterward at The Columbus Club of Hamilton 222 Queenston Rd. If desired, memorial donations to The Alzheimer Society of Ontario would be appreciated by the family.
