It is with sadness, the family of LeRoy (Syl Alex) MacDonald, announce his passing which occurred peacefully and surrounded by family at the Souris Hospital on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Born on January 17, 1945, he was aged 80 years of Chepstow, PEI.
LeRoy will be forever loved by his wife Sally (nee MacDonald), and his son Lance (Tanya MacGregor). He will also be deeply missed and remembered as a supportive grandfather “DA” to Kain and Hunter MacDonald and Erika Gallant (Travis), and great grandfather to Jase, Isla, Gavin, and Jaxton. He is survived by his sister Joan Miller.
Predeceased by parents Sylvanus and Mary MacDonald (nee MacGillvary), parents-in-law Reggie and Flora MacDonald (nee MacPhee), sister-in-law Betty Ann MacDonald and brother-in-law Leo Miller.
LeRoy lived his life working and playing on the ocean and in the great outdoors. Lobster fishing with his father as a young man and in his later years with his son. He enjoyed trout fishing, hunting, camping, boating, diving for bar clams and motorcycle trips with family and friends. He had many tall tales and memories to tell about all the time spent at these activities. A skilled licensed mechanic, LeRoy was the owner/operator of the Shell Garage in Souris for many years. With his keen business sense, he also ran a Go Cart track, a small arcade/pool hall and drove local taxi.
LeRoy always tried to give back to his community by sharing his time and talent teaching gun safety courses and being an MC for many benefit concerts. He was a strong AA member who supported many who needed his straight to the point, but kindhearted guidance.
By personal request there will be no funeral services. A graveside committal service for family and friends will take place in the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Souris, on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 1:00pm.
