Leroy (Buck) Bowman Obituary
BOWMAN- Leroy “Buck” passed away at Niagara Gardens Retirement Residence in St. Catharines on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at the age of 87.
He is survived by his loving son Joseph of Alliston, Ontario. Also survived by brother-in-law Kevin Thompson and sister-in-law Betty Mahaffey, both of Port Colborne, and several nieces and nephews, all of whom loved their “Uncle Bucky.”
He was predeceased by his parents Murray and Edna Bowman, his beloved wife Muriel (2008), and all six of his siblings Harold (Ina), Alma, Donald (Helen), Ruby (John), Ada (“Webb”), and Helen (Kevin surviving).
Buck was born on a farm on September 20, 1937, in Burford Township in Brant County. He and his family moved to Port Colborne in 1948, where he lived until 2022, when he moved into Seasons Retirement Home in Welland for two years and then to Niagara Garden Retirement Manor in St. Catharines in December 2024.
Most people in Port Colborne will remember Buck as a great mailman. Buck worked at the Port Colborne post office for 31 years.
Buck was an avid bowler (both five- and ten-pin). At one time, Buck would sometimes bowl four or five nights a week, including a mixed league with his wife Muriel. He was also an avid golfer. After his wife’s passing, he took up lawn bowling. And through all those years, you could always see him sitting in his lazy boy chair with a crossword puzzle in his lap, often dozing off with his pencil in his hand.
Buck was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church (now The Gathering Place). He was an elder for many years and served as the beadle and church steward as well. His church family meant much to him.
The Bowman family will receive visitors at the DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME, 135 Clarence Street, Port Colborne on Friday, February 21, 2025, from 2-4 & 6-8 pm and on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of the Funeral service which will be held in the Davidson Chapel at 11:00 am with Rev. Adam Bartha Officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to Covenant House or the Gathering Place would be appreciated.
